Dr. Peter Cheong is the Head of Microbiological Testing at Viroxy. Dr. Peter was a PostDoc at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Malaya working on recombinant proteins with anti-proliferative activities in breast and lung cancer cells. In addition, he has over 6 years of novel antibiotic discovery for drug resistance. He worked on a pathogen of New Zealand origin and graduated from Lincoln University, New Zealand with his PhD in Applied Microbiology and Analytical Chemistry. During his spare time, he teaches his pet schnauzer ‘Lucky’ new tricks. Lucky comes when called, sits, waits, shakes hand/paw & plays fetch.

Dr. Siti Syazani Suhaimi is a Virologist at Viroxy. Dr. Syazani has a bachelor’s degree in Biotechnology from Universiti Malaya, a master’s degree in Microbial Biotechnology from Universiti Putra Malaysia and a doctorate degree in Molecular Medicine from UKM Medical Molecular Biology Institute in Malaysia. She has travelled to all 13 states in Malaysia as the representative of the Malaysian AIDS Council. During her one-year stint with the NGO, she organised countless awareness workshops among high-risk communities, including transvestites and sex workers. In recounting her experience, she advises one not to discriminate against those with high-risk lifestyles but to understand and provide them with moral support instead.

Mr. Tan Wei Keat is a Virologist at Viroxy. Mr. Tan has a Master's Degree in Biological science (section of primate infectious diseases) from Kyoto University and Bachelor’s Degree (Honours) in Biotechnology from UCSI University. He has been working in the virology research field for 2 years as a research officer. Throughout his academic and working experience, his research has focused on studying the relationships between viruses and primates, and he has published several scientific journals. He can speak English and Mandarin fluently, as well as Japanese. Other than his professional career, he is a true rider. He loves to ride his bike around, and he does that after working hours.

Ms. Raja Maizatul Akmal Raja Ismail is a Microbiologist at Viroxy. Ms. Maizatul has a Bachelor’s Degree in Resource Biotechnology from Universiti Malaysia Sarawak. Fresh out of college, she started her career as a Food Microbiologist in an ISO 17025 Accredited Laboratory in Penang where she did microbiological work specialising in food testing and later as a Microbiologist for an international laboratory testing company. With more than 4 years of experience under her belt, she was accepted by Viroxy as a Microbiologist where she specialised in bacteriological disinfectant efficacy testing. She loves to bake all kinds of desserts like cakes and cookies. During her free time, she can be found gaming on her PC at home or on her Nintendo Switch, which she dearly loves. Last but not least, coming from Kelantan, she loves Kelantanese food, especially Nasi Kerabu.

Mr. Nick Yew Tuck Fai is a Microbiologist at Viroxy. Mr. Nick graduated from Murdoch University, Perth with a BSc majoring in Biomedical Science and Molecular Biology in 2016. He was introduced to microbiology and his passion slowly grew from there. He did his work placement at Agrifood Technology, Perth, a commercial food and water microbiology testing laboratory in 2017. He further studied at Curtin University and graduated with a Graduate Diploma in Food Science and Technology in 2019. He was awarded the 2017 AMPC (Australian Meat Processor Corporation) Scholarship and worked on a preliminary project related to Salmonella spp. identification and poultry products in Western Australia. Currently, he is involved in disinfectant efficacy testing here at Viroxy. He has been practising Kendo since his university days and is a coffee lover. He enjoys the sea breeze and cannot wait to get his diving license!

Mr. Afiq Nazran Mohd Nezam is a Microbiologist at Viroxy. Mr. Afiq graduated first class from the International University of Malaya-Wales (IUMW) with a BSc (Hons) in Biotechnology in December 2019. He did his final year research project at the University of Malaya in microbiology on compost starters. He worked at Boost Juice Bars after high school until the end of his degree as a part-timer to support himself financially. He started out as a Junior Microbiologist in February 2020 and is now responsible for bactericidal efficacy tests, mainly on carrier tests. He enjoys routine work with R&D on the side. He loves the working environment as his colleagues are great people and his boss is a very giving person. He enjoys listening to R&B singers such as Jhene Aiko, H.E.R. and Daniel Caesar. Also, he reads/watches a lot of sci-fi related books/movies. He has a sweet tooth and he needs sugar by the tonne to live and work at his best.

Ms. Nurul Ezzetty Mohd Zaki is a Microbiologist at Viroxy. Ms. Ezzetty has a Bachelor’s Degree of Science (Research Biotechnology) with first-class honour (2019) from the Universiti Malaysia Sarawak. She began her career as a Microbiologist in March 2020 and is responsible for daily laboratory testing with compliance to MS ISO/IEC 17025. She has conducted disinfectant efficacy tests according to international standards (EN 14485:2018 and TGA Disinfectant Test) and mainly focused on bactericidal and sporicidal tests. She completed her internship at the Institute for Research in Molecular Medicine (INFORMM), USM, where her focus was conducting molecular diagnostics for infectious diseases and antibiotic-resistant bacteria. During her free time, she loves working out and dancing. She started to get involved with Zumba in 2019. She used to work out for 1-1.5 hours a day. She lost 30 kg in less than 8 months.

Mr. Hubert Yong Jun Fung is a Jr. Microbiologist at Viroxy. Mr. Hubert graduated from Queen Mary University of London with an MSc in Medical Microbiology. He did his Bsc in Medical Biotechnology at Sunway University. His research project during undergrad had trained him well in proper cell culture techniques as well as cytotoxicity and numerous molecular assays. Fast forward to his postgrad, where he has learnt not only about tests for identifying bacteria, fungi, viruses, and parasites, but also about clinical symptoms and different types of antimicrobial treatments. He was also lucky enough to have exposure to prevention and control of communicable disease and laboratory management. This set of skills helped him a lot in his first job as a research assistant at Universiti Putra Malaysia, where he researched the effects of a known compound against the H1N1 virus and human coronavirus 229E.

Ms. Sabrina Ng Yue Heng is a Jr. Microbiologist at Viroxy. Ms. Sabrina graduated from Newcastle University with a BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Sciences in June 2019. During her final year, she worked on a project related to Medulloblastoma at Wolfson Childhood Cancer Research Centre. She was into proteomics and was not really exposed to microbiological testing until she got the opportunity to work at Viroxy. Her love and passion for microbiology has grown since then. As a Jr. Microbiologist, she enjoys working on routine laboratory work and is glad that her first job working experience is great as she is surrounded by reliable and lovely colleagues. She loves doing aerial yoga and the park where she can just sit around and do nothing. She definitely loves dogs!

Ms. Chong Xin Wei is an Admin Executive at Viroxy. Ms. Chong graduated from Monash University with a Bachelor of Medical Bioscience. During her final year at university, she had her internship at Assunta Hospital as a Medical Laboratory Technician. She was in charge of analysing patients’ samples in the hospital’s laboratory. Throughout the journey, she had a better understanding of the medical knowledge she had acquired. After years of being in a laboratory setting, her passion grew deeper into the business side of things. She enjoys meeting and talking to people, and she found the right job for her in Viroxy, which she enjoys the most. She can utilise her science knowledge when answering enquiries from customers and assisting them. Additionally, she loves singing and she is a member of a choir club. They perform carol singing on Christmas at public places. Besides that, she worked as a barista, and she knows how to make latte arts. Feel free to grab a cuppa coffee from her when you visit Viroxy!
